Within my ongoing time at University, I have developed skills that apply to media and journalism production, gaining proficiency in both the organisational dynamics and technical frameworks that underpin the newsroom.
I now also work as a freelance news reader for Bauer Media, supplying bulletins for local stations across Hits and Greatest Hits Radio. I am also part of the Bauer News 2025 mentorship, meaning that I can work closely with professional journalists and gain hands-on experience to build my skills.
From researching and crafting news stories, to coordinating with contributors, every aspect has helped the ability to produce live news content across various platforms like TV, radio and online formats.
Engaging in live journalism practice has allowed me to take diverse roles in presenting, editing, directing, and general reporting, covering areas of news, sports and weather.
These experiences have enhanced editorial judgement, news gathering techniques, and proficiency with production software. I've also gained hands-on experience with tools such as Burli for scriptwriting, Adobe Premiere Pro for video editing, and Adobe Audition for audio editing.
Here are a few examples of my online journalism that has been published in the University of Leeds newspaper, The Gryphon, and also articles that I have written during online news-days and created on WordPress. All stories have focused on current affairs and events of Leeds, capturing a more localised demographic.
After extensive voice training sessions and hands-on bulletin practice at Bauer Media, I now work as a freelance newsreader on weekends, delivering accurate, engaging, and up-to-date bulletins to local audiences across Hits Radio and Greatest Hits Radio. My role ensures that listeners stay informed with trustworthy news coverage, reflecting the issues that matter most to their communities.
These are examples of TV News packages that I have created to fit the format of a television news programme. Both packages were constructed by varying camera shots and angles, interview clips, natural sound effects and good script writing to tell the story. These experiences hone abilities to practice 'piece to cameras', GVs, OOVs, Vox Pops, and any many other elements that craft together an engaing TV package.
